She spent her childhood picking coffee and understands the hardship that thousands of coffee pickers must endure The work is labour-intensive, and coffee pickers often live in poverty while facing some of the hardest conditions in Central American society. If they are lucky, they earn about $10 per day, barely enough to support a small family.
